Simple and Easy Ways to Decorate Around a TV

Even though television sets are less bulky than they used to be, designing around them is as tricky as ever. Making the TV visible from every point in the room without actually making it the focal point is never easy, so we bring you a few simple and easy ideas to decorate around the TV so that it’s perfectly incorporated into your room’s design and décor.

Hang shelves

A great way to diminish the impact the TV has in a room is by displaying things around it and drawing attention away from it. The easiest way to do so is by getting shelves and placing them around. Simple tiered shelves which are wider than the TV set are a great solution for displaying your collectibles. You can also pick smaller shelves and level them with your TV set, or you can even place your TV set on a specially designed bookcase. Some of these bookcases also have a sliding panel which will allow you to ‘hide’ your TV when you’re not using it.

Accessorize as much as you can

If you feel like your TV overpowers the entire room, you can try ‘fighting’ it with an unusual tactic. Attack the black box from all sides by surrounding it with different colourful accessories: frames, lamps, decorative plates, plants, etc. You can even add bold touches below and hang colourful tablecloths or decorations underneath. This way, your TV will become just another accessory instead of the focal point in the room.

Paint the wall black

If you don’t really like the idea of adding things around your TV, but would still like to keep it out of the centre of attention (at least when it’s turned off), you can try painting the wall black. This way, when it’s turned off, the TV will become just another element of the wall, unnoticeable until turned on. This is a good solution for living rooms with elegant furniture, as everyone’s attention will be drawn to them instead to the TV. If you aren’t really into painting the wall black, you can pick dark wallpapers instead.

Get a TV cabinet

If you’re looking for a way to conceal your TV and draw everyone’s focus elsewhere, you can try getting a TV cabinet. This is an especially good solution in bedrooms, as in the bedroom, the focus should be on the bed, rather than the TV. Both the cabinetry and the TV should be as unobtrusive as possible. If you struggle to find the perfect piece for your room, you can always hire a carpenter to build you a piece which will fit perfectly into your room.

Make a gallery around it

You can make a stylish gallery around your TV; all you need are identical frames and some skill to make sure they are hanged with precision. You can hang them so that they make a special geometric shape: a square, a circle, a rectangle or even a heart. If you’re hoping to colour-coordinate, you should opt for black and white photos and matching frames, but if you’re willing to experiment, adding splashes of colour to your room will work too.

Frame it!

On the other hand, if you want to draw attention to your TV, you can try making it as pretty as a picture – literally. Have a carpenter make a custom frame for it and colour it with bright, bold colours so that it matches the rest of your furniture or your curtains. Keep in mind that this can only be done with a wall-mounted TV, so don’t hesitate to call professionals in TV installation from Sydney to help you install the TV and make sure everything is fine.

It’s never easy to decorate your room so that it looks like your TV belongs right there, but it is possible. Think about the effect you want to achieve, whether you want to draw attention away from the TV or to hide it completely, and try to put your ideas into action with the help of a professional decorator.

My “Grown Up” Christmas List

Generally, every girl has a ‘wish list’ when it comes to Christmas. My current one is expanding, and I have been online more than I ever have been in my life!!! Even if it’s not on budget, I still am tempted to just browse, and add to a “WISH” list in my MS Word, so that I can refer to it when I am at home.

According to “The Age”, Australia is to spend 8.8 billion on Christmas presents this year!! With more than half of it spending on credit/store cards. I couldn’t believe the statistics! Now, that is why I got rid of my credit card. Been there, done that! I had one when I was in Melbourne and it was so easy to spend on things whenever you want, however you want. This year I decided not to go down that road, and try and save as much as I can to do the things I love and want in 2017, so I can pursue and follow my dreams.

So, here is my ‘grown up christmas list’ that will probably be on my list for the next year too!

Regency Inspirational Romance

I hoped to have read the list of 20 books in My Book Collection, but because of the whole move from Merredin to Scarborough it’s been too busy to just sit down and take the time to read, except for today….. I hardly had anything to do, so I pulled out a book that I had my eye on for months and I am completely taken by this one, because it is set in the Regency Period. I particularly like the period in the early 19th century because it was followed by the Victorian Period and was during the reign of King George IV.

Inspirational Quotes to live by

“Every woman deserves the chance to realise her God given potential.”

Life skills is quality. Education is attaining. As women, we have to realise our full potential and need to strive for superiority and excellency. If we utilise our mental ability and engage within our communities, we can do more and above and beyond than what we ever dreamed of.

“You have to be true to yourself.

You have to be enough in touch with who you are and what you want, how you want to live and what’s important to you, to make your decisions based on that.”

Always aim high, work hard, and care deeply about what you believe in. And, when you stumble, keep faith. And when you’re knocked down, get right back up and never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on.”

How to survive as a girl in the men’s world

featuredThere is a double standard, obviously. We have all either experienced it, or have seen it. There is a deep-set of cultural, psychological views that are manifest through this double standard… Some of these attitudes persist, and if they persist in as open, and in many ways transformational society as ours is in the 21st century, you know how deep they are.

  • Hillary Clinton

What Mrs Hillary has so relevantly observed (see the quote above) stands strong and true as a modern-day Antigona caught in the winds of gender disputes. However, not all gender battles have to turn into wars; some of them may as well be competitive skirmishes leading into a joined future filled with tolerance, respect and love.

What needs to happen in both girls’ and boys’ worlds is that they need to become aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and instead of using them as weapons to conquer one another, they should use them to build stronger and more meaningful relationships. And, in this togetherness, they both need to put their guards down a little.

This time around, we’re talking about some key points that will help girls fit into the boys’ world (and maybe even love it in the process):

Staying true to yourself

I have recently been thinking a lot about what and how young girls think and do and act to fit in a world of boys, friendship, and closeness of peers.

I don’t know everything that goes on in the world, because I lived a pretty sheltered life myself, but I have a heart to reach out to girls that go through either cyber-bullying, peer pressure, and fights that go on in a circle of friends.

I like to stick to basics, and sticking to basics is the best way to go if you want to lead a simple, care – free life.

My top priority in staying true to myself is to:

  • Be a lady of quality

Some self-help pointers

Every morning when I wake up, one of the first things I do is check my email, because most likely there is going to be a new blog post from my favourite bloggers.

Having a “first things first” brings clarity, motivation and sets the tone for the day!

I especially love self-help posts that concentrate on the mind, health and body. As these things are the most important to most people in this world.

One of my favourite sayings is “If you aren’t obsessed with your life, change it”!!!!! I have to admit, I AM obsessed with my life. I believe in caring for yourself and love to browse for books that teach you how to lead a life of joy and fullness.

Being kind to yourself isn’t a luxury.. it’s a necessity

Thirteen Thoughts posted a fantastic list on:

50 ways to practice self care

I love number 27 as I LOVE the word VISION. It is a spell bounding word and every company or business you encounter always has a vision. Even individuals share a vision they have for something.

I have mentioned previously the vision I have for this blog but I haven’t exactly done up a vision board which is something I would absolutely love to do!!!!!

I just started typing and away I went! I pressed on and continued with what I love to do. Sharing and presenting beauty products with women all over the world.

I wrote a VISION statement in my post on Life.

“To create a platform for ladies to find inspiration and pull thoughts, ideas and advice together whether it’s beauty, fashion or reading.”

Those main three things are what most girls are inspired about and love to mainly talk about, so I wanted to focus on those three topics when it comes to etiquette and elegance.

My recent guest post was “How to get a vintage diva look – be glamorous for a day” and I love how it is targeted at mainly young girls to aim for a timeless look.

Vision is key for any blogger and when you’re spiritually awake and your eyes are open wide, you have something that no one can take away from you!

Do something.

Number One!!!!!

Do something.

Some self-help pointers:

1. Write a book

2. Write a “joy” list

3. Watch your favourite movie or TV show over and over again

4. Lay still and listen to classical music

5. Do some journaling

6. Write a poem or a song

7. Change a different pattern of lifestyle for awhile (like if you’re a city girl, try doing something a country girl would do)

8. Develop a new mindset – start trying to think outside of your own world and stepping out of your comfort zone

9. Develop positive thoughts

10. Put on a dance song and turn the music up loud!

Traversing Travel – plus a few more beauty products!

This week has been one hectic killer of a ride! I have had to move from small country town, Merredin to Scarborough (the sunny side of WA) all within a couple of days & which is a three hour drive, but it has been great! And I feel ready to take on the world! Well, my world. It is a transition changing from favourite coffee spots to new places in Western Australia that I haven’t been to before!

First stop. Lawley’s.

I had a chicken and cheese and avocado roll and chilled for a bit before heading off to the chemist.

You can also organise high teas at this cafe. Availability is Monday to Thursday and their phone number is 9245 6264.

You can also check out their website here

When I got to the chemist my eyes popped open at all the products that were on display! I’m a big beauty product fanatic if you haven’t noticed and I am always on the look out for something new.

I bought a Dove Summer Glow Tanning Lotion which is great for pre-summer. Today was sunny so I loved walking in the sun trying to get some vitamin D. It will keep my skin richly moisturised during any season!

Here are a few products to consider:

You can find them all at your local pharmacy if you’re in Australia, otherwise you may just need to google the product name and do a bit of online shopping!

I also bought a few mags of course!!!!!! (How unlike me, lol)

And had a walk through the neighbourhood.

How lovely are these roses!

Lavender is a favourite of mine also.

Well, for now I will leave you with these photos of beauty products, and get back to watching my morning Netflix! Well, it’s actually afternoon! 😝 Coffee ☕️ is calling my name!

How to get a vintage diva look – be glamorous for a day

In today’s world, being a diva has become a negative characteristic, a word often used to describe spoiled celebrities or persons demanding special treatment. However, genuine divas from history were all about being classy, untouchable and goddess-like. The concept of beauty has changed throughout eras, but there’s that vintage look that’s simply timeless. It draws attention and urges us to try to identify with it, so we too can experience what it feels to be in the spotlight as the classiest woman in the room. Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe – these are just some of the names that became symbols for sophisticated and gorgeous looks. Of course, when it comes to being a diva – it’s never just about the appearance. Glamour cannot be purchased, it demands a certain attitude. Here’s how you too can be a diva, even if it’s just for a day.

Hairstyle is all about volume and waves.

Glamour has many different faces, but to get that retro look – think volume and waves. Step away from straight flat ironed hair and experiment with the Old Hollywood style. The length of your hair is not an obstacle: if it’s shoulder length, get inspiration from Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren; if it’s short, turn to the absolute queen of the stylish pixie cut, Audrey Hepburn. Short hair is great for reminiscing jazz-era: make finger waves and you’ll be a head-turner! If you have long hair, try glamorous waves: the trick is to curl your hair with a curling iron and then use a simple brush to break the curls into beautiful waves. Here’s an extra tip: spray some perfume on the brush and then comb your hair – it will leave you with a beautiful scent!

Proper skincare and beauty routines

Have you ever seen a diva with pimples or dull skin? Of course not! Commit to a skin care regime to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. This means you should forget about being sloppy: no excuse for sleeping with your makeup on! Invest in quality products and take your skin type into consideration. The basic three steps for every lazy diva-wannabe include cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating. Keep in mind that daytime routine and nighttime routine are different. If you have extremely dry skin, you can use overnight face masks to restore moisture. In addition to this, take good care of your teeth. Just think of Marilyn Monroe and her stunning smile framed with red lipstick, or even Kate Middleton’s perfect pearly whites. Although using home remedies (e.g. baking soda) can be effective, turn to teeth whitening in Sydney for more lasting results worthy of the name diva. Add a glossy red lipstick and you’ll get people wondering from which red carpet ceremony you’ve wandered off.

Makeup with eyebrows in focus

The first step towards getting that diva look is not over-plucking your eyebrows. Sure, Marlene Dietrich made a bold statement with her high-arc thin painted eyebrows, but you may want to skip that. Thick, filled-in eyebrows such as Elizabeth Taylor’s or Audrey Hepburn’s are the way to go. Of course, don’t make your eyebrows too thick if they are naturally thin. The trick is to enhance them and give them more definition since they frame your face. Red lipstick is a must for that retro-diva look and overall – it’s really simple to achieve glamorous makeup style. Just make sure you don’t overexpose your skin to the sun and lay off the foundation.

Outfits that are on point

Glamour doesn’t have to be expensive. The trick is to be savvy when shopping: buy feminine pieces and simplify your look. Avoid costume-like outfits and stick to some basic rules. Whatever you wear, you have to maintain your physique, a good posture, and diva-attitude.

These are some main things you should think about when chasing that retro-Hollywood look. With a little bit of effort, you can be a true diva every day!
