How to Set Up a Pretty and Modern Living Room

The living room is, as the name implies, the most important room in any home. We spend most of our free time in the living room. We watch the TV, we read books, or we merely spend time talking with our friends and loved ones.

Since we spend so much time in the living room, that means that the room has to be pretty and to have that “comfy” feel to it. Since you’re reading this right now, you’re probably not completely satisfied with your living room, so let’s see how you can change that without spending a fortune, of course.

Colors play a vital role

When it comes to renovating, not just the living room but any other room, picking the right color for the room is probably one of the most challenging decisions. However, it doesn’t have to be. Actually, it’s rather simple if you want your living room to look modern. You have these two color options – soft hues or bold and dramatic hues. Really, that’s it.

These hues will instantly add elegance and that modern feel to any room.

Bonus tip: Pick a color that goes well with the furniture you already have, unless you want to repaint the room or buy new furniture.

Throw your carpets out

It’s true that carpets can give the room that soft and fuzzy feel, but if you really want to set up a modern and pretty living room, you have to throw them out. Wall-to-wall carpeting is not popular anymore.

Solid, gleaming hardwood floors are all the rage now, and for a good reason. They look sleek, and they provide an elegant, classic appearance.

There’s one much more significant advantage of hardwood over carpeting. Hardwood lasts longer, which means it provides an excellent return on investment, which will help you save money in the long run. And of course, it’s much easier to clean hardwood than any other type of flooring.

Bonus tip: You can throw a couple of area rugs here and there to tie the room together if you have a feeling that that will work after you install hardwood flooring.

Lighting can make or break a room

Most contractors like to install standard lighting fixtures. You know, those that they’ve installed over and over again in all the homes they’ve built. But, if you want your living room to look modern, you need to avoid those fixtures.

Designer lighting fixtures are expensive, that’s for sure, but only if you buy new ones. Fortunately, you can use a couple of tricks to get that high-end look without breaking the bank. Visit your local flea markets, yard sales, and secondhand stores.

There’s a big chance that you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for right there. And don’t worry about installing these unique and modern fixtures. Just call an experienced local emergency electrician, and your lighting fixtures will be installed in just a couple of minutes.

Don’t be afraid to accessorize your home

You know how people say that it’s the little things in life that make us happy? Well, that’s exactly why you shouldn’t forget to accessorize your home. Paintings, vases and even fancy ashtrays can give any room some personality.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you should just fill your room with any junk. No, not at all. Accessorize the room only with the things that matter to you. Put some family pictures in photo frames, fill a vase with water and put your favorite flowers in it. Heck, put the Mona Lisa in the room if you like it and can afford it.

At the end of the day, your living room is your safe space, and you should feel comfortable in it. Follow these tips but don’t forget to add your personal touch to it in order to make it really unique and pleasant.
