Completely Cosmetics (Introduction)

Australian consumers spend well over $20 million a year on cosmetics. Studies show that physical appearance plays an important part in our social interactions, interpersonal relations and job success.

Traditionally, cosmetics were used simply to beautify or decorate the skin.

Cosmetic counters are now stocked high with potions and creams that will rejuvenate our skin, prevent wrinkles or modify the ageing process.

Cosmetics have actually been used for over 4000 years! Greeks used lanolin (which is sheep’s wool) as a moisturizer in AD 100, Romans took milk baths and also used powder to make themselves whiter! Powder was also used in the Elizabethan era.

The purpose of cleansers is to remove dirt and makeup from the skin. There are three types of cleansers available. Soaps should not be used on the face, although soaps are very effective for cleaning the skin.

For example, you can use Neutrogena – Liquid Fresh Cleanser and Makeup remover.

To buy on the Neutrogena website click HERE. I use this product daily even if I don’t wear makeup that day!

Some people say not to invest in a toner but it is only unsuitable for people with normal to dry skin. Toners can make the skin feel cooler and fresher!

Facial Scrubs

The main purpose of facial scrubs is exfoliation of the skin to make it appear smoother. Most exfoliators contain beads or granules. My favourite product is the Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Scrub, which has energizing micro-beads which enlivens your senses! This light gel lathers into a bubbly foam removing surface dirt, oil and makeup. You honestly feel so refreshed after applying this to your face. I think I have mentioned this product previously, but it has been a life-saving product as it leaves your face feeling clear, bright and healthy looking.

MASKS

There are 2 types of masks. One is a moisturizing mask. You leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse off. Masks are relaxing and make you feel pampered but they don’t replace a moisturizer. The next type of mask is a cleansing or clay mask which absorb oil, making the skin look tighter.

I use the following masks.

Mary Kay TimeWise Moisture Renewing Gel Mask

You can pop it on for 10 minutes, but sometimes I leave it on overnight to add a more enhanced pampering experience. Either way doesn’t hurt!

Moisturisers

Moisturisers are mixtures of oil and water, making it more resilient, making it less dry, smoother and softer. They can be similar to hair conditioners and make the skin less dry.

I recently just bought QV Moisturing Day Cream which is SPF 30 and protects and revitalises sensitive skin. I don’t really have sensitive skin, but I am sensitive to getting pimples easily and needed a daily cream to avoid this.

One good thing to know is that Apricot, Cucumber and Passionfruit creams can actually cause allergic reactions. Choosing the right fragrance or natural herb creams.

There are many brands that are natural, organic and vegan.

Have a look at INIKA, or 100 Percent Pure. When finding out new brands, make sure that you read up on what natural ingredients they use, or if they are free of artificial fragrances.

Also, don’t forget to check out Australian Naturalcare. You can shop by category, and they have their own blogs too!!! If you have a look at the website you may find relevant information on what is good for your particular skin. I particularly want to try the A’Kin Jojoba & Corn Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub, speaking of exfoliation!!! It is ONLY $15, and it says it also refines the skins texture.

One of Australia’s largest range of natural and organic skincare products is:

Nourished Life.

They do their research and check every ingredient. They are also gluten free and vegan beauty specialists. They use olive oil, beeswax and honey to help maintain healthy glowing skin for their clients. They also sell natural makeup.

I would most likely like to try the Pai BioRegenerate Rosehip Oil. It contains concentrated fruit with twice the regenerative sterols and five times the carotenoids of the more regular used seed oil.

rosehip_oil_3Clinical studies show that Rosehip is effective at improving the appearance of scars, pigmentation, stretch marks and fine lines. This oil has one hundred percent Vitamin E, known to improve skin’s overall texture and elasticity.

You can buy it HERE.

After all this information, I am sure you have had that “completely cosmetic” experience!
